H 1.5, D 3, W 6, M 12: This is the Konami code of a life worth living if you want to rest in power until you rest in peace.
“As each day arises, welcome it as the very best day of all, and make it your own possession. We must seize what flees.”
We all have been there. We lose a loved one, a friend, a colleague. We may be close to someone who might be in a similar situation.
The first thing that comes to our mind is the following 3 letters: R.I.P
For most of us, RIP stands for Rest In Peace.
For some of us, RIP stands for Rest in Power!
No matter our guild, be it Peace or Power, we all miss an important point when we say those words.
We will come to that point in a minute.
The Hustle Culture.
First, let us address the elephant in the room: hustling culture.
Like many of you, I have been a victim of that one. Unfortunately, we see people on social media who have made it.
They have only one word for you to be like them. HUSTLE!
By being like them, understand if you want to be rich, famous and be happy in life.
Some of us will become like them by hustling.
Yet it is just a selected few of us, the “head” of the spermatozoid, if I may.
For most of us, hanging barely at the long tail of the spermatozoid, all we are “rewarded with” is mental health issues.
Be it loneliness, depression, burn-out, or even suicide, and we are all prone to be victims of the hustle culture.
One caveat for all the hustlers like there: I am not saying that you don’t have to hustle if you think this is the only way to get what you want in life.
Just be aware of the price you will have to pay if you get there or when you get there.
Apply the cheat code of life if you don’t want to be RIPped sooner than you think.
When I was younger, playing video games, sometimes I would cheat with the Konami code.
“The Konami Code (Japanese: コナミコマンド, Konami Komando, “Konami command”), also commonly referred to as the Contra Code and sometimes the 30 Lives code, is a cheat code that appears in many Konami video games, and some non-Konami games.”
The cheat code was there by design. And those who used it were able to cheat the game to gain some power.
Of course, I am not saying that we should cheat through life and harm other people in the way to get what we want.
I see the Konami code as a life hack for that purpose in the frame of this discussion we are having.
Coming back to that point, what we are missing when saying RIP is pretty simple.
Most of us think that only dead people need to rest, be it in peace or power.
In the back of our heads, we are wired to think that we will rest when we are dead also.
We are lured into thinking that because life is short, there is no time to rest.
“Time is money.” is the most dangerous sentence ever assembled by Humans.
Why is it stupid to compare time to money?
Well, those have two different values.
Money is something that comes and goes.
I can give you 1 000 US$ today. Tomorrow I could make 2000 US$ and get back those 1 000 US$.
Suppose I give you just one second of my time. There is no amount of money I could give to someone to buy back that time.
So time is more valuable than money. Because when your time is gone, no matter how small, you cannot recover it, no matter how trillions of dollars rich you are.
H 1.5, D 3, W 6, M 12: Live, Rest, Live!
Resting is the best way to live.
There is a reason that the universe is alternating day and night.
Because it knows from billions of years of experience that rest is power, rest is the energy of life, not the deceased’s state.
In an era where we live at a speed beyond our biological rate, we need to rest and reset the clock of our beings.
How often should we rest? What is the bare minimum?
This is where the code above comes handy:
- M 12: every 12 months,
- W 6, every 6 weeks,
- D 3, every 3 days,
- H 1.5, every hour and a half.
Take 15 minutes of break every 1.5 hours. By the break, I mean being on your own and unplugged from your smartphone, your screens, your loved ones.
Maybe you can take your afternoon off on Wednesday at work. If this is not possible, maybe you can work from home or make that afternoon a “meeting-free” time.
Everyone month and a half, take some days to reconnect with yourself. Maybe you can book a weekend with your family to go hiking, spend some time with your loved ones, disconnect from the speed of this mad world.
Every year, no matter how busy you are, take at least 3 consecutive weeks of break or more. Make sure that you are resting away from any digital simulation. If it is not possible, batch those moments where you need to go online to the strict minimum.
Resting is not weak. Resting is a way to purge the system so that we can make room for more energy.
Resting is a way to reflect on what is important and disconnect from the speed of this world. Often while in action, we might think that everything we do is important.
Yet most of the time, we are busy just for being busy.
Then death comes knocking at our door. We don’t even have time to negotiate. As we are on our deathbed, we say to ourselves: I should have rested more; I would have enjoyed those moments of life more.
There you have it: the Konami code of life, the only life hack you need. Because ultimately, resting is the only hack that will keep you alive.
We need to enjoy every moment. And resting is the best way to be present on that fantastic journey called life.
What is your best lifehack to stay alive?
Are you resting enough to recharge fully?
How often do you take a beak, a meaningful one?
