“KISS me Tender”, the hidden song of Elvis Presley that will change your life.

The original song of Elvis Presley, Love me Tender, was not about love. Indeed there exists a hidden version of the song where the word love was in fact replaced by the word “KISS”.

I just discovered the original manuscript of the lyrics below my pillow, while making a nap under a tree with my love.

And if we think about it, it makes total sense. Indeed, in every wedding I attend, in every movie I watch, there is also that moment with the magic moment: “You may kiss each other.

Kissing is the contract singing act, well before Covid-19 entered our lives. However the principle of kissing is present in our lives since our early memories of our parents giving us kisses to show love and encouragement.

We love to kiss and to be kissed, don’t we?

Be it at home, at the office, among friends and families, the KISS principle is everywhere.

KISS, an acronym for “keep it simple, stupid” or “keep it stupid simple”, is a design principle noted by the U.S. Navy in 1960.[1][2] The KISS principle states that most systems work best if they are kept simple rather than made complicated; therefore, simplicity should be a key goal in design, and unnecessary complexity should be avoided.

It also applies when designing users’ interfaces, when coding or programming, to make the software user friendly and intuitive. Apple has mastered this principle via their iPhone iOS or macOS softwares designs from the user’s perspective.

Let’s go back to my finding of the original song of Elvis Presley. Here are the lyrics with the original song:

KISS me tender, KISS me sweet

Never let me go

You have made my life complete

And I KISS you so

KISS me tender, KISS me true

All my dreams fulfill

For my darling I KISS you

And I always will

KISS me tender, KISS me long

Take me to your heart

For it’s there that I belong

And will never part

KISS me tender, KISS me true

All my dreams fulfill

For my darling I KISS you

And I always will

KISS me tender, KISS me…

And there is even one principle hidden in plain sight on this song, the KISS referred to on this song is not the “Keep It Simple and Stupid” as stated below.

It is a principle that I discovered a few years ago and that is hidden in the “KISS me Tender” song above.

The magic KISS principle is very simple. KISS, in the context of this song, stand for:

  • Keep
  • Improve
  • Stop
  • Start

Most often, I have been overwhelmed by life, by situations that I felt like I have no control over. By always singing the song “KISS me Tender” in that situation, I was able to carry on and find a solution.

I can feel your skepticism. And I understand it. So let me explain.

1. Keep

KISS me tender, KISS me sweet

Never let me go

You have made my life complete

And I KISS you so

Never let me go, Elvis is saying that he wants to be kept in her life.

This first step is important in every situation. To be able to sit down and assess the situation on which we are, and decide what things or ideas we must keep is critical.

Assessing what we should keep is a way to weigh what in our life has already a significant impact and that we should keep moving forward.

2. Improve

KISS me tender, KISS me true

All my dreams fulfill

For my darling I KISS you

And I always will

All my dreams fulfill is where The King is saying that his dreams are fulfilled.

If in the previous step, we have kept some ideas, now is the time to start the improvement process.

Indeed, it is not only about the dreams we have in life. It is also about how we can materialise them in this universe. It is not about how many ideas you have. It is more about the relentless process of improvement that you have implemented to make them better.

3. Stop

This part, of course, did not make it to the song. Indeed Elvis decided to not include the lyrics of the “stop” part into the final song.

In life also, we can decide that not everything we are doing is beneficial to us. It is up to us to try out some new things, assess their impact in our life and take the deliberate decision to stop them, if they have a negative impact on us.

This 3rd step is the most challenging one for most of us. However, when applied, it forces us to focus on what really matters and cut the meat from the mammoth. We then become lighter and more agile without all that baggage we do not need anymore.

4. Start

KISS me tender, KISS me long

Take me to your heart

For it’s there that I belong

And will never part

Take me to your heart, Elvis wants to start a new journey with his love.

We had a lot of ideas at the beginning. We kept some and then improved them. At some point, we decided to stop some ideas because they are not working for us. Now we are just with our A-Team of ideas. We know that we are safe with such a great team.

It is the perfect moment to start our next journey and make the best out of it. We can focus our energy on those ideas that made it here so that we can make it everywhere.

That’s it. I kept it short and simple in this article. I KISSed myself.

And I encourage you to do so about your life also.

KISS me Tender, KISS me true…

What KISS principles do you apply to your life?

Do you like it short and simple?

Is the KISS principle too “kissy” for you?
