For me, there is a simple way to shatter that concept of "work - family."

I don't pay my family members to stick around. No matter my shortcomings, they might cast me out. Yet we still know that our bonds are not binded by a dollar bill.

Personally I despise calling my workplace a family. The best I came up with is a community.

That is the way I feel at work : like a community of beings sharing a common desire to get somewhere together. No family strings attached.

Build a community in your workplace. Run away from the so called "family" workplace.
