Toulouse, France, Mars 2020.
Covid-19 is hitting hard France, and we are about to go to lockdown.
I ask myself what I can do to help my comrades and my family in Dakar, Senegal.
With some colleagues from the Airbus Africa Community, we did a quick meeting.
There is so much fake information out there. We need to provide people with a reliable source of data.
We are talking about putting their health in danger.
How can we provide reliable information?
Let’s set up a website where we gather all the verified information we can put together.
This is how www.covidfreeafrica.com was born amidst the pandemic in 2020.
Just a Google drive folder and an easy domain name redirecting to it. This is it!
Thanks to the K.I.S.S principle, as in Keep It Simple and Stupid.
We collected a lot of data related to PPEs: Personal Protective Equipment.
You need to sew a mask. We got you covered.
You need a file to print a shield. We have you protected.
You want a recipe for Hydroalcoholic gel. Here is our cookbook.
Millions of PPEs have been produced and are still being produced to protect us physically from the Covid-19 virus.
I was happy to be contributing to that effort worldwide.
However, we all miss producing the PPE of PPEs. I am talking about the protection of our physical health and our environment, and those around us.
Like in every health crisis, we are quick to produce shields to tackle the visible consequences.
However, billions of people are suffering and will continue to suffer because of the invisible consequences, the hidden part of this Covid-19 crisis, for years to come.
In this article, I want to share with you one PPE that we can wear to protect us beyond just wearing a PPE.
The PPE I am referring to stands for:
- Preserve your health
- Protect your environment
- Ensure the safety of those around you
1. PRESERVE YOUR HEALTH — Wearing a PPE not to catch the virus is just the first step. A big part of our health is also our mental health.
We have to take care of our mental health. We need to find mechanisms to make sure that we stay sane in these insane moments.
If the body is the hardware, the mind is the software.
We can have the most significant figures with Terabytes of RAM (Random Access Memory), Petabytes of internal memory, the best-integrated CPUs (Central Processing Unit), and GPUs (Graphical Processing Unit).
Yet if we have an infected software, all that hardware is for nothing.
We must maintain our software with some resources to take care of our mental health.
2. PROTECT YOUR ENVIRONMENT — Once we have secured that we have an up-to-date operating system as a quantum computer, it is time to plug into the LAN (Local Area Network).
When it comes to taking care of your environment, we have to focus mainly on 2 aspects.
The first one is our immediate physical environment. We have to make sure that we set it correctly to work for us, not against us.
We make sure that we cut all the clutter. We must surround ourselves only with the things we need to move to the next step.
Having people that lift us is also part of setting the right environment where we can thrive.
Then, of course, there is the environment as the planet. We have to make sure that we minimize the negative impact of our actions.
3. ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THOSE AROUND YOU — In a network, we are all connected through the LAN to our loved ones. Thanks to the internet, we are connected to the rest of the world.
When a computer on a local network gets a virus, it can potentially infect all the computers connected to the same network.
And the virus can spread to computers all over the world because of, or thanks to the internet.
To avoid such a situation, we have to install anti-virus and firewalls.
The same philosophy applies to the real world. We need to take care of our loved ones and our community.
We all bear the responsibility to protect those in our circle of infection.
Each one protects one.
Our circle of infection is not only our loved ones. It is every person that we can come into contact with within our daily business.
If we protect our circle of infection, it will take care of us in return. And here we have it, the virtuous circle of the best and only one PPE in life:
Preserve, Protect, and Ensure is the invisible shield we need to wear to protect us wherever we are.
Like the magnetic field protecting the Earth, we need this PPE to protect us from cosmic radiation and more.
What is your invisible shield in life?
What are you doing to protect your mental health?
How do you contribute to creating a safe environment for those around you?
