Why belief is the Monday to your Sunday success?
In this article, we will see how to achieve greatness in 7 steps, one for each day of the week.
First let me share with you the story of Boubacar.
“Boubacar is living in a remote city in Mali, called Bourem.
One Monday, he decided to take the bus to go to the train station.
In the bus, he read Awaken the Giant Within : How to Take Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Destiny!, from Tony Robbins to enjoy the ride while working on his beliefs system.
After a long trip, he arrived at Temera, Mali at the twilight of the day.
He slept at the train station to make sure that he will be ready for the morning after.
On Tuesday, at dawn, he entered the train. He made sure to be in the first wagon of the train for Timbuktu, Mali.
The two days ride is very exhausting for Boubacar because of the age of the train and the railroads. The train arrived in Timbuktu the Wednesday evening.
Once there, he went to his favorite restaurant to have the best “mafé” and then went back to his hotel room.
On Thursday morning, he went to the Timbuktu market to eat some food. He loves the mood of the market, it’s a kind of magic. This afternoon, he went to the gym of his hotel to exercise and to take actions to improve his health. While excersinging, he was listening to the audio book: The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles from Steven Pressfield.
On Friday morning, he went to meet one of his best friends, Fatoumata and they shared a ride in her car to the capital city of Bamako, Mali.
Fatoumata is a successful entrepreneur well known in Mali. She often gives talks and share how the book The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg set her path to success by helping her develop great habits..
On Saturday, at lunch time, they arrived at Fatoumata’s family house in Bamako. They shared a meal together. In the afternoon, they were invited to the National theater as VIPs for the premiere of a new show: Timbuktu, a beautiful city in Africa.
Fatoumata and Boubacar are friends since they were little as they were born in the same city of Bourem. They lost each other’s tracks when Fatoumata and her family moved to Bamako as his father Salif was nominated as the director of the National Theater of Mali. However Boubacar and Fatoumata shared the same values while growing. On her 18th birthday, Fatoumata received a book as a gift from Boubacar: Give and Take: Why Helping Others Drives Our Success from Adam Grant.
They came back late from the theater and woke up late Sunday morning. That Sunday was a special day because it was Boubacar’s 30th birthday. Salif, Fatoumata’s father, gave an envelope to Boubacar and asked him to open it. There was a book, Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength by Roy F. Baumeister and a nomination letter.
While reading the letter, Boubacar felt in tears: he is now the new deputy of Salif at the National theater of Mali. His father, Salif, was the griot of Bourem. He always dreamed that, one day, Boubacar would take over his legacy.
By being the new deputy, Boubacar will be able to tell stories at a whole new level never imagined by his father.
He cannot wait to come back to share his success with his family and especially with his mother, Aminatou.”
While reading the story, let’s summarize the seven steps to achieve success in life.
- B as Beliefs: on Monday, build your belief system
- T as Thoughts: On Tuesday, what you believe in will create the thoughts in your mind.
- W as Words: On Wednesday, your thoughts will materialize through your words.
- A as Actions: On Thursday, you will put your actions where your mouth is
- H as Habits: On Friday, your daily actions will become your great habits.
- V as Values: On Saturday, your actions will become your values
- S as Success: On Sunday, sit down, relax and enjoy the success of your hard work all week long.
I can hear you saying: Nice story, Mad. How can I remember all those steps?
Well imagine that Boubacar is the vessel of all your beliefs. He can be a wiener or a winner depending on the powers you give him.
Boubacar (Beliefs) is in a red Train (Thoughts), precisely in the first hot Wagon (Words), adding (Actions) coal in the locomotive while a Horse (Habits) is drawing a painting of the beautiful valley (Values) outside as the train reaches Serenity (Success), its final destination.
What are you doing to ride the train of your success?
What beliefs are you feeding it with?
